Construction of the New Route 112

Design and supervision of work to relocate Route 112 between Saint-Joseph-de-Coleraine and the Black Lake sector of Thetford Mines, following a major landslide at the former Lac d'amiante mine in the Chaudière-Appalaches region. An ambitious project involving the construction of a bypass road to national highway standards, with a passing lane in each direction, over 10.3 km.

Robotized Cleaning of Anode Butts

Norda Stelo was given the task of developing and designing an automated system for cleaning anode butts in an aluminum smelter. To achieve this, a cell equipped with two robots positioned on either side of the anode to be cleaned was created. The robots are equipped with an arm fitted with a chain flail that can loosen the deposits by mechanical action. The cell developed is suitable for restricted workspaces and allows movement and cleaning cycles adapted to the configuration of the deposits on the anode, using specific routes.

Montreal Port Decarbonization

Montreal Gateway Terminals Partnership (MGTP) seeks to understand and dramatically reduce its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. As a port terminal operator, it has many different sources of emissions from a range of different vehicle types that support the day-to-day operations of the port. This project first performed a detailed GHG inventory to identify deep GHG reduction opportunities.

Life Cycle Analysis of a Decarbonization Technology

Evaluation of the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions profile of Exterra Carbon Solutions' new CO2 mineralization technology and determination of the distribution of GHGs between the different product streams through a life cycle assessment (LCA). This will allow to obtain a preliminary estimate of the carbon footprint of their technology to help inform engineering design decisions and support internal stakeholder and investor engagement.

Coastal Protection Project in Cotonou, Benin

In Cotonou, the capital of Benin (West Africa), up to thirteen meters of shoreline were disappearing every year due to erosion, swallowing dozens of houses, hotels, and other buildings. In 2003, it was concluded that protective structures needed to be built along seven kilometers of coastline to safeguard the capital. The project included engineering studies and the construction of eight groynes made of concrete blocks and crushed stones over seven kilometers of coast to counter the impact of ocean waves and prevent sand erosion. The use of over 500,000 metric tons of rock, sourced from three quarries located more than 250 kilometers away from the site, along with the establishment of a concrete plant to produce the molded X-blocks, generated numerous local jobs and ensured the success of the project.

Potash Ship Loading System Expansion

Our team performed the detailed design of an expansion project to increase the handling capacity of an existing potash facility from six million tonnes per year to ten million tonnes per year. The project included a new 600-tonne capacity surge bin, modifications to an existing conveyor to create a shuttling head end, a new 6,000 t/h conveyor, a conveyor tunnel, and a vehicle overpass.

Support in achieving excellence in asset management

The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated is responsible for five major road transportation and active mobility links in the Montreal region. Asset management has always played an important role for this entity, which is the guarantor of key infrastructures, some of which are almost a century old. This mandate aims to support PJCCI in its asset management practices, enabling them to develop a holistic vision supported by the most advanced asset management standards according to the IAM (Institute of Asset Management). Norda Stelo's experts have been supporting and guiding the PJCCI corporation on this journey since 2016.
