Norda Stelo, over 60 years of history

Norda Stelo was founded in 1963 in La Malbaie region of Quebec, but moved to Quebec City a few years later to take full advantage of the major infrastructure projects of the time. The company quickly gained a national reputation through various important mandates in the fields of transportation, municipal engineering, and environmental studies. In 1977, the firm entered the international market with the award of its first contract in Africa.

After being owned by American companies for a few years, Norda Stelo became a 100% Canadian-owned company in 2005, owned by its employees. This marked the beginning of a period of growth, with several acquisitions and the opening of new offices in Quebec, Ontario, and abroad in the United States, Côte d’Ivoire, and New Caledonia.

In the early 2010s, Norda Stelo decided to undertake a profound organizational transformation under new leadership. Its employees were asked to identify new values and set ambitious goals in the areas of governance and corporate responsibility. The name “Norda Stelo” (North Star in Esperanto) was chosen to symbolize this common purpose. Hard work and dedication throughout the decade have seen the company become a flagship in its industry, crowned by public and independent recognition. This reinvention gives new impetus and crystallizes what makes Norda Stelo outstanding for its employees and clients.

Precisely, the year 2019 marked a decisive turning point for Norda Stelo with a strategy to develop its approach in asset durability, leverage technological innovation to support its expertise, and implement an ambitious corporate social responsibility program. Over the past five years, Norda Stelo has namely become the first Canadian engineering firm in its category to be certified B Corp and has been listed among Canada’s Best Managed Companies.

With the recent strategic acquisitions of Planifika, CWA Engineers, and InnovExplo, Norda Stelo is able to provide an integrated suite of services across the entire value chain of critical, strategic, and precious metals and industrial minerals up to their distribution, including the port, rail, and road sectors, all within a proactive asset and environmental impact management approach.
