MG<\/span>TP<\/span> required<\/span> a proper accounting of their carbon footprint as well as information and guidance on opportunities to dramatically reduce their emissions.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Secondary <\/span>issues include ensuring cost <\/span>competitiveness<\/span> over the long term while ensuring on-site <\/span>safety and vehicle asset life extension.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Businesses, including ports<\/span>,<\/span> are decarbonizing globally. <\/span>Most<\/span> emissions at ports are due to the operational activities of the port operators through different equipment such as light duty vehicles, stackers, forklifts, <\/span>reach<\/span> trucks<\/span> and cranes. <\/span>A precise emissions accounting is needed to <\/span>identify<\/span> the best approaches for reducing them.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n \n \n

Norda <\/span>Stelo<\/span> was best positioned to support M<\/span>GTP<\/span> in this work thanks to a combination of proven <\/span>know-how<\/span>. Indeed, its <\/span>expertise<\/span> in GHG inventories, knowledge of port operations, understanding of operational efficiency and <\/span>logistics<\/span> opportunities, as well as its mastery of zero-emission fleet technology and ability to <\/span>leverage<\/span> vehicle electrification to generate revenue, meant that it was able to cover several angles of the project and work effectively.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Norda <\/span>Stelo<\/span> was able to put forward innovative ideas thanks to its <\/span>expertise<\/span> in site-to-port <\/span>logistics<\/span> and its understanding of the opportunities for aggregated revenue generation in the market through fleet electrification. Scenarios were also proposed to enable <\/span>the <\/span>MG<\/span>TP<\/span> to best position itself for different plausible <\/span>outcome<\/span>s.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The ISO 14064, standard for greenhouse gas inventories, was used to <\/span>determine<\/span> the emissions in scope 1 to 3 of MG<\/span>TP<\/span>‘s activities. <\/span><\/span>A life cycle analysis approach was used to <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>identify<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> the most significant sources of greenhouse gas emissions.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> A new structure was then put in <\/span>place to <\/span>identify<\/span> and characterize emission reduction opportunities specific to a port facility.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n \n \n

Norda Stelo took a step-by-step approach, first determining how fleet logistics could be optimized to reduce emissions while saving on fuel costs. Next, available low-carbon technology options were identified, followed by emerging technologies for future planning.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Different scenarios were proposed so that the MGTP could best position itself according to the evolution of technological options.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While the GHG reduction strategy was prioritized to <\/span>identify<\/span> operational efficiencies that would save costs, Norda <\/span>S<\/span>telo<\/span> also provided novel concepts for revenue generation through electrification.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

All reduction options have been proposed considering the emerging technologies that <\/span>the <\/span>MG<\/span>TP<\/span> will need to integrate at some point. <\/span>The <\/span>MG<\/span>TP<\/span> is thus able to think about how to \u201cfuture-proof\u201d its activities so that it can be ready when zero-emission technologies become more widely available.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This <\/span>study<\/span> helps<\/span> lead the <\/span>way<\/span> in best practice for <\/span>quantifying<\/span> emissions<\/span> and <\/span>identifying<\/span> deep<\/span> reduction<\/span> options.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n \n \n
