The expansion was constrained by the size of the existing surge bin and the existing infrastructure on site. The construction and installation of the new equipment and infrastructure took place within a limited site footprint and needed to accommodate ongoing terminal operations.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n \n \n

Using state-of-the-art technology, Norda Stelo designed a new \u201cexpanded flow\u201d surge bin that doubled the bin capacity while maintaining the same height as the existing surge bin. The surge bin, with two new infeed conveyors and two new outfeed conveyors, was completely constructed beside its final position to allow the existing surge bin to continue operating during construction, then seamlessly moved into place and commissioned during a brief shutdown period.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\n In Cotonou, the capital of Benin (West Africa), up to thirteen meters of shoreline were disappearing every year due to erosion, swallowing dozens of houses, hotels, and other buildings.\n\nIn 2003, it was concluded that protective structures needed to be built along seven kilometers of coastline to safeguard the capital. The project included engineering studies and the construction of eight groynes made of concrete blocks and crushed stones over seven kilometers of coast to counter the impact of ocean waves and prevent sand erosion.\n\nThe use of over 500,000 metric tons of rock, sourced from three quarries located more than 250 kilometers away from the site, along with the establishment of a concrete plant to produce the molded X-blocks, generated numerous local jobs and ensured the success of the project.\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t

Our team performed the detailed design of an expansion project to increase the handling capacity of an existing potash facility from six million tonnes per year to ten million tonnes per year.
